Yerevan

As it is famously said, Yerevan is a fountain of culture. Every street, every little corner is culture. The city has a long history. It was founded in 782BC and is older than Rome.

Obviously, Yerevan is one of the most fascinating cities with its ancient houses, modern streets, hospitable and lively people, bustling atmosphere, local taverns, and luxurious modern-style wine-bars, old churches, and up-to-date buildings. The city of the Sun has a wide variety of sights and museums to visit and thousands of bars, restaurants, cafes, and clubs to spend the evenings.

The centre of the city is just a museum in the open air. Starting from Victory Park, through Cascade Complex and Northern Avenue to Republic Square and Vernissage you will be amazed by the diversity of the city. The open markets and warm-hearted people welcome you and make you feel so close to the city.

The Pink City is renowned for its pink buildings made from tuff-volcanic rock. The state buildings around Republic Square are the speaking examples of it. Right here you can visit the History Museum of Armenia. The whole history of the country is here in front of you. You will see even the oldest shoe which is 5500 years old.

Then walking up to the Opera House you will pass through busy Northern Avenue with boutique shops, cafés, and hotels. In addition, Cascade Complex is the next point that houses the Cafesjian Centre for the Art. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee and take part in outdoor concerts. And if you happen to be here on last Friday of the month then you will surely dance folk dances hand in hand with locals.

Well, if you dare to climb the stairs up, you get to the most lively park of Yerevan. It is Victory Park with the statue of Mother Armenia. The astounding view of the city in the lap of Biblical Mt Ararat will stay with you even after leaving the city.

The Blue Mosque is another interesting place to visit in the big centre of Yerevan. In order to have thorough information about the foundation of Yerevan, head to Erebuni Museum. Genocide Memorial Complex situated on the hill of Tsitsernakaberd is the place where we pray for the millions of Armenians killed in 1915.

Being in Yerevan you can’t miss the chance of shopping in Vernissage. Handpicked jewellery, handmade wooden gifts, scarfs, bags with national symbols and works of art with every step in Vernissage. And for having a tasty shopping you will surely like walking in Gum Market. What would you like to have with you? Herbs for tea, gata, a wide variety of dried fruits, lavash, cheese, pakhlava…?

In the evening the singing fountains will meet you at Republic Square. You will feel a pleasant evening breeze and enjoy the life of Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.
