Odzun - Cave Mendz-Er - Akhtala - Return to Yerevan

Departure from the hotel. A professional, experienced driver in a comfortable car picks you up from the hotel and your unforgettable journey begins.

Odzun. Showing off over a deep gorge since the 4th century, but still hiding the secret of its name, Odzun Monastery is ready to receive you and saturate you with unforgettable sensations. Even a person who is completely uninterested in history and religion will not be able to resist the spell of Odzun.

An interesting fact: the monastery complex was built on the site of a pagan temple, which, according to some historians, was dedicated to snake worship.

Cave Mendz-Er. It’s time to relax and have a delicious meal near the ancient and former inhabited Mendz-Er cave, inside which today a real ethnographic museum is open. The main feature of the restaurant and the cave is their location high above a steep cliff with gorgeous views.

Akhtala. The last in order, but not the most beautiful, is the mountain monastery of Akhtala – the northern queen of Armenia, striking not only with its unique architecture, with mixed Armenian, Georgian and Byzantine architectural traditions and grandiose fresco painting, but also with an incredible history. After all, Akhtala, like many other ancient Armenian monasteries, has experienced many invasions and tragedies over the centuries, thousands of stories of saved and lost lives.

An interesting fact: on the southern wall of the monastery, you can see a bas-relief depicting a snake, the history of which has not yet been unraveled. Scientists suggest that this is due to the period of snake worship in Ancient Armenia.

Return to Yerevan.
