Zvartnots Cathedral is one of the most beautiful sights of Armenia. Currently, it is in ruins. The cathedral was built in the 7th century which was quite difficult times for Armenia. It was really unique in its style and became an example for other architectures building monasteries later. The Cathedral couldnāt survive the earthquake in the 10th century. It ruined. Moreover, it remained in ruins until the early beginning of the 20th century. It was excavated and rediscovered. After that, the Armenian architectural historian Toros Toramanian conducted research based on which the architectures partly reconstructed it. Within the territory, there is also a museum where the whole history and other details of architectural features are presented.Ā
Although it has suffered a lot during history, Zvartnots has maintained its incredible beauty. It is right in front of biblical Mt Ararat and gives a special view of the mountain. In 2000, the Cathedral was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
