Ukhtasar

Let’s head to the Syunik region to discover the most mystic places in these mountains. Even one week of stay here, however, is not enough to discover all the marvels that the region offers. One of the most interesting places is Ukhtasar mountain which is famous for its petroglyphs.

Thus, take jeeps or hike to the peak of these mountains to explore the earliest messages by ancient people. Just imagine over 2,000 decorated rock fragments extending to the foot of the mountain. The Armenian petroglyphs are exceptional in the context of prehistoric Near East culture by their number, variety, style and content. There are about 100000 petroglyphs known in the Armenian Highland, more densely located in Syunik –Ukhtasar. According to archaeologists, these petroglyphs date back to the Paleolithic (12,000 BCE), later Chalcolithic and Bronze Age periods.

However, there is still a lot to discover about rock art and the early messages left to us from our ancestors. And Ukhtasar holds a large number of these petroglyphs. Anyway, petroglyphs are not the only thing here that will shock you. The energy around the site will make you feel as if you are just starting to live, will take away all the worries and leave you alone with the past.
