Saghmosavank

Right between the three Holy Peaks of the Armenian Highlands at the edge of the Kasakh river canyon rises the beautiful silhouette of the Saghmosavank monastery. In 1215 Prince Vache Vachutyan built the St. Zion Church of Saghmosavank. We think that the name for the church was not chosen accidentally. Since the highest point on the hill in the Holy City is called Zion. Here King Davit created some of the psalms while having a walk on the mount.

Besides, the monastery was not only outstanding for its center of Scriptorium, Doctoral school but also for its Holy items, Sacraments kept under its ‘roofs stunk with incense-odor’.

One can truly admire the huge scientific and spiritual potential that this complex has exercised throughout its long-lasting existence. But the most magnificent thing is the canyon that leaves everyone speechless.
