Unique artworks, literally unique

Everyone knows that Armenians are famous for their great pieces of art: khachkars. For centuries, Armenian masters have devoted their lives to the creation of these masterpieces. Noratous is the place where you will find a great number of them. 

In Noratous you will see thousands of khachkars in one and the same place but you can’t see even two of them being the same. Surprisingly enough, all are different and all have special ornaments.

The cemetery of khachkars is the biggest one in Armenia and dates back to the sixth century. Noratous is in the Gegharkunik region. What’s more, there is also a fortress dating back to the 3^rd century B.C. The number of standing khachkars and their uniqueness will amaze you. The name of Armenia as ‘an open-air museum’ is completely proven right here, in Noratous. Certainly, this is the place where you will have the opportunity to discover everything about one of the incredible artworks of the medieval period of Armenian history.
