This unique monastery is worth your attention!
The monastery is located on the south-eastern slopes of Mount Aragats near Tegher village, Aragatsotn region. According to the inscriptions, Vache Vachutyan, one of the richest and respected Armenians, built the monastery in the thirteenth century for his wife, Khatun. He had bought the region from the Zakaryans brothers. It lasted 11years to build the monastery.
The origin of the name of the monastery is quite interesting. There were a lot of herbs which people used to heal wounds and diseases. Besides, next to the monastery there was a clinic where people were treating Armenian wounded soldiers. So, from here the name has originated (‘degher’ means ‘medicine’ in Armenian, and as time passed, the name changed from ‘Degher’ to Tegher).
