Itinerary

Day 1City-Tour to Gyumri - Museum of Urban Life and Folk Architecture - Marmashen monastery complex

Departure from the hotel. A professional, experienced driver in a comfortable car picks you up from the hotel and your unforgettable journey begins.

City-Tour to Gyumri. Gyumri is the cultural capital of Armenia, home to many talented actors and singers from beloved Armenian films, the places where you will see the creations with your own eyes. Moreover, we will show you the most colorful buildings of the former Alexandropol, which today are included in the Kumayri Architectural Reserve – the cultural center of the city, similar in its architecture to the architecture of the ancient Armenian capital – Kars. The tour starts on the main square of Gyumri – Vardanats Square, where the Church of the Seven Passions of Christ is located, surprising with its architectural features, different not only from the world, but also from the traditional Armenian architecture. All this and much more awaits you during an eventful city tour of the northern Armenian city.

Museum of Urban Life and Folk Architecture in Gyumri. We are going to plunge you even deeper into the world of Gyumri Armenians, bringing you to the most unique museum of its kind, built in the 19th century and collecting all the most important and interesting exhibits that best describe the psychology, life, culture of the Armenians of the city of KumayriGyumri.

An interesting fact: the Armenians of Gyumri are considered the most “jolly” – the sense of humor among the locals is indeed a distinctive feature of character.

Marmashen monastery complex. Marmashen is a special monument of Armenian Christian architecture, as its architectural style most of all resembles the architecture of Western Armenia. Elegant decorative arcade, chic bas-reliefs of floral and geometric motifs on the tympanums of doors and around windows, wall inscriptions on the grabar (ancient Armenian language), a medieval cemetery, ancient khachkars – all this is just a small part of that truly divine beauty that will saturate your souls in an instant .

An interesting fact: the architect Trdat, who worked on the creation of the majestic Marmashen, was also involved in the restoration of the dome of the Hagia Sophia, which today has been turned into a mosque.

Return to Yerevan.
