Tsitsernakaberd

Nothing is forgotten!

Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in Yerevan is dedicated to the memory of the 1.5 million Armenians who perished in the first genocide of the 20th century, at the hands of the Turkish government. Since 1968, every year on April 24 thousands of people visit Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex to respect the memory of the victims.

The complex consists of three main buildings: the Memorial Wall, the Sanctuary of Eternity (Memorial Hall & Eternal Flame) and the Memorial Column “Reborn Armenia”. There is also an underground museum with library and archive sections.

Mourning music by Komitas, M. Yekmalyan always sounds from inside the memorial being in harmony with the fire of eternity. The fire symbolizes the idea of never healing the wound, of eternal smoke.
