Askeran Fortress

Imagine these amazingly huge walls of Askeran fortress. They are stretching for 1.5 kilometers along both banks of the river Karkar. This awe-inspiring site once used to be a huge defensive wall for Karabakh. The fortress has had an immense role during history.

It has been built still in the 18th century to protect Karabakh from different Turkish tribes from the side of the Mughan field. The fortress is still standing and guarding the country from the only existing plain area of Nagorno Karabakh. On the way to the historical capital city Tigranakert, don’t hesitate to stop and enjoy the magnificent view of the fortress boasting a heroic past for centuries.
